We are Freaky Dancing. We’re a Utrecht based collective creating new club experiences where live acts, dj’s, performances and art clash, fuse and transform each other. Beyond the concepts of concerts, exhibitions and club nights, we aim to bring out the best of each and take up space to experiment and evolve.
Freaky Dancing was inspired by Manchester’s infamous Haçienda, where guitar bands like New Order, The Stone Roses and Happy Mondays crossed paths with acid house and where the birth of British rave culture went hand in hand with graphic design and architecture. That being said, we don’t like looking back too much and mainly aim to do things differently than they have been done before. This goal manifests itself in putting on live acts in the middle of the night, working with multiple stages within one room to eliminate changeovers and getting rid of the separation between a music and an art program. In doing so, we believe Freaky Dancing suits our modern age, in which people don’t enjoy only one music genre or art discipline at a time, but compile their own eclectic taste right across outdated borders and unwritten rules.
Music, lighting and visuals
The venue has two main rooms with (live) music stages where loud music, dazzling lighting and visuals are present. There is seating available outside of the music area’s to relax and unwind.
We recommend bringing earplugs to the event. Earplugs are also available at the bar.
Within the location you’ll encounter multiple art installations in different areas which consist of visuals, video’s, lights and in one specific case smell.
